About Me and this Blog

I grew up in a household where television viewing was limited to an hour per day, most Hollywood films dismissed as a waste of time and money, and Super Mario Bros. something I played in friends' basements. I entered college having never heard of "Thriller".

However many hours I have spent in front of the TV since then, however many YouTube videos I've googled and songs I've downloaded, I still experience American popular culture as a foreign country. Its customs and language, which those born and raised there take for granted, often strike me as baffling, alien, and therefore endlessly fascinating.

Stranger In A Strange Land explores this foreign country and my uneasy love affair with it.
